Emails show Yale profs cancel class for Kavanaugh hearing

The revelation of a second woman's sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh has not changed Senate Republicans' plans to vote on his nomination to the Supreme Court after a scheduled committee hearing this Thursday for his first accuser.

Deborah Ramirez, 53, told The New Yorker Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a dorm room party at Yale University when she was 18.

Dianne Lake, a student organizer, said she and other protesters want it known that the dean did not speak for them.

The protest was already being organized by the university group Yale Law Students Demanding Better several days before the latest allegation surfaced.

Additional emails obtained exclusively by Campus Reform show that as many as 20 Yale Law School faculty members canceled or rescheduled up to 31 classes on Monday because of the Kavanaugh hearing.

But until there is a full, fair, and impartial investigation of the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, YLS students say they will continue to feel overwhelmed with disillusionment and frustration. In one case, a former student told the Guardian, a prospective clerk was introduced to Kavanaugh at a party that Chua hosted at her home - and was later told that the judge wanted her to apply for the post.

Kavanaugh has denied the sexual misconduct allegations as "smears, pure and simple".

Kavanaugh staunchly denies both accusations. Quartz reported that the students are planning to head to Washington, D.C., this week.

There are no allegations of improper behavior between Kavanaugh and his clerks, but some found Chua and Rubenfeld's "counsel off-putting", per the HuffPost's source, who says the advice she received was "phrased as a warning".

Michelle Guthrie Fired From Position As ABC Managing Director
Under his watch, the ABC introduced News 24 (now the News Channel), iView and developed its digital strategy. The Australian spoke to a number of current and former ABC and industry executives who requested anonymity.

About 300 students participated in the protests on campus, and 115 others traveled to Washington to demonstrate, said John Gonzalez, a second-year law student who said the protests included the majority of the student body of about 600.

Members of the US Capitol police arrested them one-by-one and led them away.

"The law school has a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which all of our students can live and learn in a community of mutual respect, free of harassment of any kind".

Students had been told the school must remain nonpartisan, she said, "but sexual violence is not a partisan issue".

"The Senate's treatment of our own alumna Anita Hill more than two decades ago sent a crystal-clear message to women and to all people who have experienced sexual violence: We don't care about you", said Dana Bolger, a third-year law student at Yale who was formerly co-director of Know Your IX, which advocates against sexual violence in schools. "We demand that the Senate not repeat this same shameful mistake again".

Yale Law School Dean Heather Gerken issued a statement supporting the students' calls for a thorough investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh.

"Students have worked with the Law School administration and faculty so that the community can come together as a whole to discuss this important moment in our country's history, " she said in a statement released by Yale Law School.

Following a July 13 Above the Law article suggesting that Chua's motivation for writing the op-ed could have been her daughter's future U.S. Supreme Court clerkship opportunities, Sophia Chua Rubenfeld, tweeted to editor Elie Mystal that she was joining active duty JAG Corps after her circuit clerkship, and wouldn't be applying for clerkships on the high court anytime soon.
