Dallas Cop Walks Into Wrong Apartment, Kills Man Inside

A Dallas police officer shot and killed a man Thursday night after entering the wrong apartment.

It happened around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Jeffrey Scherzer, who lives at the complex, said when he returned home late at night an officer escorted him to his apartment and warned him to steer clear of a blood trail. She ended up shooting him.

Police have not identified the officer.

Medical examiners identified the victim as 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean, according to NBC 5. He was taken to the hospital and died a short time later.

Authorities said they are awaiting family notification before releasing the victim's name. They can't believe what happened. "Don't they train police?" "I don't know if she was exhausted but that's pretty scary", resident Richard Healy Nelson told Fox 4 Dallas.

Police said they are conducting a joint investigation with the Dallas County district attorney's office.

"This is a very unique situation", Hall told reporters at a Friday afternoon press conference. At some point she did fire her weapon, ultimately striking Jean. The chief could not even say where the woman is, or whether she is in custody.

Yet he's also courted controversy with comments about homosexuals, women and victims under the 1964-85 military dictatorship. Bolsonaro is running on a tough-on-crime platform and has advocated for looser restrictions on gun ownership in Brazil.

There are still a lot of questions about the events leading up to the shooting.

"Somebody has to be insane not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment", she said.

Chief Hall asked the community and the media for patience and cooperation.

Edmunds said the embassy in Washington is in touch with the US State Department "to get as much information as they can". "We have not interviewed her ..."

Jean was the son of Allison Jean, former Permanent Secretary of the Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations for St. Lucia, according to St. Lucia Ambassador Anton Edmunds. He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, a multinational audit and consulting firm with offices in Downtown Dallas.

Botham's employer, PricewaterhouseCoopers, issued the following statement: "This is a bad tragedy".

He graduated in 2015 from Harding University, where he studied accounting and was known for his powerful singing voice, the Christian Chronicle reported.
