Country music star's son-in-law dies in Florida fall

Ben was married to Mattie Denise Jackson, 28, Alan's eldest daughter, for less than a year.

The son-in-law of country music star Alan Jackson and Nashville prosecutor has died in a fall in Florida.

Samuel Benton Selecman was just 28 at the time of his death, having been hospitalized for over a week after falling off a boat dock and suffering traumatic head injuries.

He earned his law degree at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and was employed as an Assistant D.A.by the Nashville-Davidson County District Attorney's Office.

"The District Attorney's Office is saddened to announce the passing of Assistant DA Ben Selecman..."

Mattie and Ben generally eschewed the celebrity spotlight, maintaining private social media accounts and keeping to themselves.

At the time, Mattie wrote lovingly about the pair's meeting, period of dating, proposal, and wedding.

"Our favorite part to plan together was a surprise first dance, a two-step swing dance to my Dad's first radio single, 'Blue Blooded Woman.'"

A visitation for Ben's friends and family take place on Sunday while a service to honor his life will be held Monday.
