Ruby Rose wants Batwoman to be someone kids can look up to

Explaining the significance of the move, she told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: "I found out that I got cast as Batwoman".

Today (August 7), the network announced that queer actress Ruby Rose would don Kate Kane's mask and cape and make her official debut as Batwoman in the annual DC Crossover Event later this year before leading her own show in 2019. The news wasn't public at the time, and Rose was anxious she was going to slip up and accidentally tell someone while walking the red carpet, because she "kept spontaneously crying" about her casting.

Rose, visibly holding back tears in the interview, continued: "I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional is because when I was growing up watching TV, I never saw someone I could identify with, let alone a superhero". "I get to be Batwoman", she said.

Rose went onto explain that the role is meaningful for her personally as well.

Ruby will be playing Batwoman, whose legal name is Kate Kane, on a CW show, Entertainment Weekly had reported that day.
