Ruby Rose cast as Batwoman on The CW

Ruby Rose cast as Batwoman on The CW

She first appeared as a love interest for Bruce Wayne in the 1950's after censorship reached an all-time high.

Kane, a cousin of Bruce Wayne, also targets Gotham city's criminal underbelly.

Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, is one of several vigilantes who protect Gotham. The character was reimagined for DC " s New 52 as Kate Kane, a Jewish lesbian who protects Gotham City as Batwoman.

The CW has confirmed Batwoman will be out in the TV series.

A gay Batwoman is, in historical terms at least, an ironic touch in the long-running story of Batman. Wertham used Batman and Robin, a man and a boy who run around in tights together, as an example of the homosexuality in comics.

"For the most part, I definitely don't identify as any gender", Rose said in a 2015 interview with Elle. Batwoman will be the first outwardly LGBTQ superhero, male or female, on a comic book TV show, which makes it pretty groundbreaking.

Actress Ruby Rose is suiting up to play Batwoman in The CW's annual crossover special featuring characters from the network's other DC Comics shows.

Aniston on 'misconceptions' that she 'can't keep a man'
As for the cultural change in the wake of #MeToo, the star said: "It's long overdue". "They need to be part of this conversation". Jennifer finally speaks out to the tabloids and the misconceptions saying "No one knows what's going on behind closed doors".

Though it has not been explicitly stated, artwork released by Warner Bros suggests she will wear the character's signature black and red costume.

In May, the CW announced this year's highly-anticipated Arrowverse crossover would include the Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl fighting alongside...

The CW was reportedly on the hunt for an out lesbian actress to portray Batwoman and found their flawless heroine in Rose.

Plans are also afoot to give Kane/Batwoman a series of her own.

CW veteran Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place, Smallville) will write and executive produce the series, with recognizable names Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns also on board as executive producers.

According to CW president Mark Pedowitz, the Batwoman pilot is aimed for mid-season, although it is unclear on whether or not it will get picked up for a full series. "We'll do a pilot for mid-season [and] whether it goes to series, I can not tell you".
