Maryland puts head coach DJ Durkin on leave after football player's death

Maryland head football coach D.J. Durkin has been put on administrative leave in the aftermath of Friday's bombshell ESPN report that alleges a "toxic culture" and repeated instances of abusing players under Durkin's tenure.

Durkin, who served under Muschamp from 2011-2014 at Florida, is now the head coach of the Terrapins. It's not like ESPN's report was poorly-sourced - it cites "two current Maryland players, multiple people close to the football program, and former players and football staffers".

Strength and conditioning coach Rick Court is the most frequently named member of the coaching staff, though head coach D.J. Durkin's name arises as well, and he and Court are described as like-minded. No cause of death has been officially released, but ESPN has since learned that heatstroke is the cause of death.

The Bleacher Report wrote that McNair appeared in one game last season as a true freshman but ended up redshirting, hoping for a starting spot this year. He played in one game for Maryland, against Towson, on September 9. Walters's report is expected to be released September 15.

The champions are Manchester City. "We are the ones who have to do more, fight more, and that must be our attitude". Clubs go there and put 10 behind the ball and you need to break them down and Shaqiri has got that in the locker".

June 21, 2018: ESPN.com confirms the McNair family retained the law firm of Murphy, Falcon & Murphy to represent the family.

The university said members of the athletics staff had been placed on administrative leave pending the final outcome of McNair's death investigation and that it had "commissioned an external review of the procedures and protocols surrounding athletes' health and safety".

Maryland's gubernatorial candidates weighed in on the controversy on Saturday. The story followed the tragic death of football player Jordan in June, who was allegedly not cared for properly in the events leading up to his death.

Ben Jealous, the Democrat running for governor, published a tweet calling for Evans and Durkin's suspensions, ahead of the announcement that Durkin was placed on leave.
