German couple convicted of rape, online sale of young son

The couple and six others were arrested a year ago.

The 48-year-old mother and her 39-year-old boyfriend were sentenced to 12 years and 12-and-a-half years respectively for repeatedly raping the young boy and selling him to other paedophiles online.

The couple must now pay £38,000 in damages to their son and to a three-year-old girl, who they also sexually abused.

The woman's 39-year-old male partner was handed a 12-year prison term followed by "preventive detention", which could delay his release on the grounds that he poses a danger to the public.

On Monday, a Spanish man was sentenced to 10 years after he paid the couple in order to abuse the child.

Freiburg police chief Peter Egetemaier said that the investigation into the couple had led them to around 20 other people who are now under investigation for child sexual abuse based on confiscated images and video footage.

They also were convicted of rape, human trafficking for the objective of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and producing child pornography, among other offenses.

The judge, Stefan Bürgelin, said the child's mother started abusing her child after her partner, Christian L, threatened to leave her.

The tweet was quickly condemned, or at least heavily shaded, in most corners of the internet. Now, James is turning the insult into a sharp retort.

The 33-year-old was also ordered to pay 18,000 euros to the young victim.

Lais admitted on the witness stand to the assaults on the boy.

The trial has also raised concerns that officials might sometimes wrongly presume that a woman is incapable of abusing her own child.

The case has shocked Germany and sparked a row over how the couple were able to sell the boy for sex for thousands of euros even though they were already on the...

In his verdict, Buergelin said Taha went along with the abuse at first so she would not lose Lais as a partner and later "for financial motives".

The boy is now living with foster parents.

German media report that child welfare authorities in Baden-Württemberg state have been heavily criticised for failing to stop the couple's abuse.
