People think David Davis secretly wrote 'It's coming home' in his resignation

Numerous prime minister's supporters believe she would win a contest and cement her authority; but May would face a leadership challenge if she lost, with Johnson among the potential candidates. His departure adds to a crisis over Brexit that threatens to tear apart Prime Minister Theresa May's government.

Mr Johnson resigned on Monday as the fall-out from British Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plans continued.

"I think it is right that the Cabinet backs the prime minister and speaks with one voice and if people don't do that then they have to go", Justice Secretary David Gauke told BBC radio.

"He's been very, very nice to me, very supportive", Trump said.

"I think the fact that she has lost two cabinet members has. strengthened her", he said.

May's proposals for a future European Union relationship after Britain departs from the bloc next March had taken two years of internal government wrangling to agree.

Last month, Hunt said it was inappropriate for businesses like Airbus to issue warnings about moving jobs because of Brexit and that they should instead be getting behind May in her push for a good deal on leaving the EU. He has served as health secretary since 2012.

Earlier, Downing Street announced Johnson's resignation as foreign secretary, just minutes before May addressed MPs about the softer Brexit plan agreed at Chequers on Friday.

This is a possibility, particularly now Mr Johnson has followed Mr Davis out of the door.

When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. However, U.S. officials tried for two more days to use procedural methods to stymie its ultimate adoption.

In a two-page letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, the leading Brexit supporter said that while he initially accepted the government's proposal, it now "sticks in the throat". They are ones that want to see a "hard Brexit"-Britain crashing out of the EU's single market so long as it can control its borders".

The escalating crisis is casting new doubt on May's political future, with Brexit proponents saying her "soft" plan would force the United Kingdom into the worst of all positions; remaining locked in the union's open border scheme without any voting power.

Mrs May said she was "sorry - and a little surprised" by Mr Johnson's move after his apparent support on Friday.

Johnson, who favours a stronger break with the European Union, said in his resignation letter that Britain is "truly headed for the status of [EU] colony".

In her resignation letter she echoed the words of Sir Michael, saying her actions "fell below the high standards" expected.

The New Statesman says Leadsom is also "in with a shout" for the leadership, but the Daily Mirror points out that her failed bid to beat May in 2016 could damage her chances.

Asked if Brexiteers needed to put the PM's future to a vote of the Conservative Party, he replied "it may well come to that".

Having made it to the final two candidates following the resignation of David Cameron two years ago, Leadsom was forced to pull out of the race after suggesting she would make a better leader than May because she is a mother.
