North Carolina mother alleges racism at private pool

We apologize to our neighbors who were directly hurt by these actions, and we hope that everyone in Glenridge will join us in redoubling our efforts to care for and support all of our neighbors during this hard time, ' they said in a statement.

The temperature in Winston-Salem, North Carolina crested at 90 degrees on July 4 - the same day Jasmine Edwards and her son, both African-Americans, sought cool waters of their private community pool.

The video begins with Edwards, who says she is black, asking the man identified as Bloom, who is white, if there is an ordinance that says she has to show ID to enter the pool.

Based on the incident at the Glenridge Community Swimming Pool located in the 3300 block of Tallison Drive, the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) has received multiple national and global media requests for both an official statement and for release of the telephone call from the reporting person to the WSPD Communications Center. They determined that Abhulimen had a pool access card which provided her with proper access to the pool. I have one! That's how I got in! The incident led Edwards to feel singled out for her race, and even though the officers apologized to her, Bloom never did. Because this is ridiculous'.

A video recorded by Jasmine Edwards on July 4, seen more than 4 million times on Facebook, shows what happened after Adam Bloom questioned whether she was allowed to be there. "I'm with a baby".

Bloom has since resigned from his position as pool chair and board member, and has been fired from his job at a packaging company.

The member then asked Bloom to verify Abhulimen' address, and when she gave what appeared to be a different one, Bloom said he thought "there's something a little askew" and asked for her ID.

She later resigned from her job as CEO of a health company.

She tells them that Mr Bloom had approached her to ask for her driver's licence to confirm she was a resident.

Officers spoke with Bloom who said he was concerned that a woman identified as Jasmine Abhulimen using the pool without authorization to do so.

"It would be nice if you apologized", Edwards shoots back.

Edwards shared video of the ordeal on social media, where Bloom has been dubbed "Pool Patrol Paul".

The attorney called the video incomplete and misleading, and said Bloom has received death threats and has relocated his wife and three children to a "safe location".

"We sincerely regret that an incident occurred yesterday at our community pool that left neighbours feeling racially profiled", the association said in its Thursday statement. The statement also condemns racism as "abhorrent, wrong and [having] no place in a free country". He added that it's "unfortunate that conclusions are being reached by people who have seen a 46-second video of their interaction".

The questioning eventually led Abhulimen to call what was happening racial profiling, and Bloom made a decision to dial police to allow a "neutral third party" to resolve the situation. Apparently it was not enough for him. "But that's good enough for me today".
