We'll get a break in the activity this evening, then showers and storms develop again by midnight, starting south of I-88 then expanding to cover most of northern IL.

"However, large hail and damaging winds remain likely and a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the area".

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has raised the potential for severe storms, over all of the Washington region, from slight to enhanced this afternoon and evening.

Most of Upstate south of I-90 could see thunderstorms with damaging winds.

Sunday started with low clouds and a little bit of fog in the Foothills, National Weather Service meteorologist Russell Danielson said. Localized flooding is possible where thunderstorms persist. Pop-up storms are possible this afternoon and they may become a bit more widespread this evening into tonight.

Beyond Tuesday though, temperatures will slowly creep back up into the upper 80s to near 90°, with periodic chances of showers and storms sprinkled in throughout the week, as well.
