After convicted in the fodder scam cases, Lalu Prasad Yadav was not present in Patna for his son's engagement. Lalu's sisters have already arrived in the city for the engagement.

However, in a hush-hush ceremony yesterday, the duo got engaged at a five-star hotel in Patna. Twitter was abuzz with engagement pictures of the Yadav scion and Aishwarya Rai.

Tej Pratap's mother Rabri Devi, who is also an RJD leader and former Bihar chief minister, had finalised the marriage in March following consultations with Aishwarya's father Chandrika Prasad Rai, a former Bihar minister, and her mother Poornima Rai, who is an assistant professor in Patna Women's College.

With Lalu in custody, it fell upon Tej Pratap's younger brother and leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly to don the role of the head of the family and greet and welcome the family members from the girl's side. Several other politicians were also expected to be a part of the engagement ceremony. As per the sources, their marriage is likely to take place in May this year.

Earlier, during a press conference in the state capital, Lalu and his wife Rabri Devi said that they would not take dowry from the family of his two sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav's wife.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest of nine children, is a first-time lawmaker and was health minister until last July, when Nitish Kumar dumped the RJD and Congress and formed a new government with the BJP.

Aishwarya Rai, an MBA from Amity University, is the granddaughter of Bihar's former Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai and oldest daughter of six-time RJD MLA Chandrika Rai.
