National View: Trump saga enters even more acrimonious phase

White House aides were blindsided when Giuliani said Wednesday night that the president had repaid Cohen for $130,000 that was given to Daniels to keep her quiet before the 2016 election about her allegations of an affair with Trump.

After months of claiming he knew nothing of the $1,30,000 his personal lawyer paid the porn actress Stormy Daniels, who alleges an affair with Trump, the president changed tack this week, admitting he reimbursed his attorney Michael Cohen for the payment.

Last month, a federal judge in Los Angeles granted a 90-day stay in Daniels' original lawsuit, because Cohen may face a possible indictment in the criminal investigation by the FBI. "The President of the United States did not in any way violate the campaign finance law".

It came as Mr Trump said he would "love to" speak to special counsel Robert Mueller in the Russian Federation probe but tells reporters he wants to ensure he'd be "treated fairly".

Giuliani said despite Trump's openness to sit down with special counsel Robert Mueller, he would strongly advise Trump against it.

"He is a great guy", Trump said.

Sanders also tried repeatedly to direct reporters back to the statements made by Giuliani and Trump.

Trump then intervened to demand that Cohen link him up directly with Stormy Daniels.

In the semifinals, the Korea team will play the victor of the quarterfinal between Ukraine and Japan. The ROK team said the decision is "an important statement to promote peace between our countries".

"This was information that the president didn't know at the time, but eventually learned", Huckabee responded.

Giuliani in an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday had said Trump fired James Comey as FBI director previous year because Comey declined to state publicly that Trump was not at the time a target of the agency's investigation into Russia's role in the election.

Just returned home to the attractive White House, from Dallas, where the Arena was packed to the rafters with the great fans and supporters of the @NRA. But I don't think it's going to take more than a week or two to get a resolution.

"The admissions by Mr. Giuliani as to Mr. Trump's conduct and the acts of Mr. Cohen are directly contrary to the lies previously told to the American people", he said.

Earlier in the sketch, Stiller as Mr Cohen refers to contradictions in statements last week by Mr Trump and his new lawyer Rudy Giuliani about the legal case involving Ms Daniels. According to the Journal, investigators are probing whether Cohen might have committed fraud either by inflating the stated value of the assets that backed the loans, or by misrepresenting how the funds would be used.

Viewers even got treated to a brand new impression from the always fantastic Kate McKinnon, doing her best take on Rudy Giuliani, thanks to some freakish prosthetics and impeccable delivery. But Trump sought to bolster his standing on Friday.

A Times report this week documented the "cold truce" between the two men as Trump has soured on Kelly's efforts to impose order on the White House.

Baldwin's Trump responds by asking Cohen if he's calling from a secure line, to which he responds in the affirmative, saying the call is "untracable" - but the skit then cuts to a shot of two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents listening in on the call, shaking their heads in disbelief.
