The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Mr. Dino Melaye, has been denied bail in the case of an alleged conspiracy and aiding of jailbreak.

"Prosecution can not come at the expense of death and that is very important because if anything happened to him, the responsibility will lie on the security agencies".

The speaker said he had not seen any country where anybody had been arraigned in court on stretchers.

"So, my admonition to the security agencies is to do everything possible to ensure that his life is secured first before prosecution".

Moreso, the court held that Dino must deposit his global passport with the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. Their intention is to move him to Kogi State anytime from now. The operatives seized his global passport to prevent him from leaving the country.

Earlier, speaking under personal explanation, Karimi said in the process of arresting and transporting Dino from Abuja to Lokoja by the police, the lawmaker was involved in an accident and was hospitalised.

Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, while speaking with Premium Times, said the decision of the court was for the Inspector-General of Police to "take adequate care of the defendant".

"You Senator Dino Melaye after breaking the side windscreen attempted to kill yourself by jumping out of the bus and fell on the ground and thereafter started shouting that you want to kill yourself and implicate the Police for your death". The presiding judge, Olasumbo Goodluck, adjourned till May 16 and May 17 for the commencement of trial.
