DC United Boss Confirms Rooney Interest

DC United boss Ben Olson has confirmed interest in Wayne Rooney but insists the deal to take him to MLS is not yet done.

Rooney left Everton's training ground early on Friday, although the club later said he has a knee injury and was receiving treatment before leaving around midday.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has claimed Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave his boyhood club, despite ongoing rumours that he is close to agreeing a deal to head to America at the end of the season.

The Croxteth-born player is believed to have been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season, although the United States transfer window only opens in July.

A number of MLS franchises held talks with Rooney's agent Paul Stretford more than a year ago, before the forward had agreed to rejoin Everton for the 2017/18 Premier League season.

Rooney, Everton's leading goalscorer this season, has become increasingly frustrated with a reduced role under Allardyce.

The Englishman is well loved by the club's supporters but his class doesn't impress many others who perhaps don't watch him on a regular basis. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone anymore.

"My understanding is there seems to have been some negotiation somewhere along the line but as for clarity as to whether Wayne is staying or going we'll see later on", said Allardyce. All I know is that there appears to be an interest from D.C. United - where that is and where that lies and where Wayne lies with it, I can't tell you at the moment.
