Ashley 'hopes very much' that Benitez stays at Newcastle

After beating Chelsea 3-0 on the final day of the 2017-18 Premier League season, Benitez was pressed on his future, with major managerial jobs - including Arsenal - available this summer.

"I said before the game it is not about finishing 10th".

But one thing is for sure, Jonjo Shelvey is destined for greater things if he can remain honest.

"And the fans, the atmosphere here is togetherness, the relationship, the players they care, the manager, the staff, working together trying to achieve what we want to achieve".

"The players have done so well. We have to have the confidence in our team to be able to go anywhere thinking that we can win".

St James' Park has seen the last of Brazilian star Kenedy who, after joining on loan from Chelsea in January, can not feature against his parent club, but the Magpies will be desperately hoping he will don the black and white shirt again in the future.

One ray of sunshine though has threatened to banish the rainy days that surrounded us under Ashley and even with the danger of storm clouds looming in the distance, these have been kept at bay by the growing proof that Rafa Benitez's project does look like it has the potential to bear fruit.

Hawaiian Officials Encourage More Evacuations After New Fissure Opens
According to the latest report from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, issued on Sunday, May 13th, the flow has not yet stopped. In particular, the Pu'u 'Ō'ō vent, where lava is exposed, has erupted nearly continuously since January 1983.

But signing the Brazilian could prove tricky after failing to agree a fixed fee with Chelsea in the loan deal.

"You need to sign players to be sure you have a good squad with competition".

Meanwhile, Ashley says he "hopes" Benitez will remain Newcastle manager after hitting out at those who have criticised his ownership of the club.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has urged Mike Ashley to appease Rafa Benitez's transfer wishes in order to keep him at the club.

"I would like to thank Rafa Benitez for his magnificent achievement this season", the statement read.

Chelsea had a chance to claim a Champions League spot for next season, but they downed their tools in the most hapless fashion.

"Finally, I would like to thank the fans for their unrivalled support of Rafa and the team throughout the season".
