Arsenal to hold talks with Thierry Henry for managerial position

Arsene Wenger has backed Mikel Arteta's credentials to become the new Arsenal manager and revealed that he has not been asked for his opinion about who his successor should be. They may be forced to eat their words, however, as Gazidis believes that Arteta - now Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City - embodies Arsenal's footballing "values" better than many of his purported rivals.

After 22 years at the helm, Arsene Wenger oversaw his final game of his managerial career as Gunners boss with a 1-0 win at Huddersfield.

And Wenger told beIN SPORTS: 'Arteta has all the qualities to do the job.

But Steve Bould, Wenger's assistant since 2012, and goalkeeping coach Jens Lehmann will be offered posts in the new set-up.

Arteta, who has never managed a team, took up a role at City under manager Pep Guardiola in 2016.

This comes after the news that the Arsenal board have met with the front-runner for the job, Mikel Arteta to discuss his potential role as a manager on Thursday.

Talk of Wenger taking over from current boss Jean-Louis Gasset reflects a sense of discontent within the club and suggests next season they will be pushing for champions league qualification.

Allegri, who secured a fourth successive Serie A and Coppa Italia double over the weekend, appears the least likely to take the reins after both he and Juve said they want him to remain in charge of the Italian giants heading into next season.

Fans can expect Arteta to approach managing with a similar commitment to hard work and tactical thinking, the lack of which many fans often complained Arsenal seemed to play with under Wenger. The Turkish global will hope to be a vital cog in the Arsenal set-up and impress his new manager, no matter who gets the nod.

"I am going to give myself until June 14, the day before the World Cup begins, to decide".

"I know how you do these things - if I say something nice about somebody you will say I am backing him but this is not the case".

"There is always something you could have done differently, but the problem of negotiations is to know when you give in and when you don't give in", said Wenger.
