Salmonella outbreak forces recall of 207 million eggs in US

The eggs have been sold in nine states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

"After learning that all of the people who became ill ate eggs or egg dishes, the FDA was able to trace back the source of some of the eggs to the Rose Acre Farms' Hyde County farm", the news release reads.

The recall was issued through an "abundance of caution" due to reported illnesses in the East Coast.

In 2010, more than 550 million table eggs were called from two Iowa egg farms owned by Austin "Jack" DeCoster. The FDA has since inspected the farm. The farm produces 2.3 million eggs daily from 3 million laying hens that are commonly distributed to retail stores and restaurants.

According to the Food Safety News website, the recall marks the largest such pulling of eggs from the market in the USA since 2010. They are shipped under a number of brand names such as Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Great Value, Glenview, Nelms and Sunshine Farms.

Donovan Mitchell returned to Game 1 after getting X-ray on hurt foot
We'll get to see him in the NBA Playoffs beginning this weekend. "I just stubbed my toe", Mitchell said. "And then he went back". Mitchell left the game briefly for about five minutes to have X-rays taken on his left pinky toe and returned shortly after.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that salmonella infections cause about 1.2 million illnesses and 450 deaths every year in the United States.

The agency advised the public to throw away the eggs or return them to the place of purchase for credit or refund.

Rose Acre Farms officials didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment. The CDC said that in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.

The service said it is also possible for eggs to become infected by Salmonella Enteritidis fecal contamination through the pores of the shells after they're laid. The recall is equivalent to nearly 10 days production at the farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day.
