Haley: Come on, we all know Assad used chemical weapons - again

"Our President has not yet made a decision about possible action in Syria". Britain staged and directed the alleged chemical attack in Syria, the Russian military said on Friday but did not offer evidence of that claim.

President Donald Trump "has not yet made a decision about possible actions in Syria", Haley said during the United Nations meeting, according to The Associated Press.

At least 40 people were killed and hundreds sickened in last week's attack in Douma, in eastern Ghouta on the outskirts of Damascus.

Hours later, the White House said Washington was very confident that Syria carried out the chemical attack, saying USA intelligence shows Russia's claim that the attack was faked was false.

During an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting Friday, Haley said the president is analyzing the situation and taking measures to avoid any repercussions.

The death toll has risen past 70 - including 20 children - in the chemical attack Saturday that targeted civilians. After Russia stepped into the vacuum left by the lack of action against Assad in 2013, Moscow assured Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State John Kerry that all of Assad's stores of chemical weapons had been accounted for and either destroyed or secured.

French envoy Francois Delattre said Assad's government had "reached a point of no return" with its most recent chemical weapons attack.

"Russia can complain all at wants about 'fake news, '" Haley added, "but no one is buying its lies and cover-ups".

Francois Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, speaks during the United Nations Security Council meeting on Syria at the U.N. headquarters in New York, April 13, 2018.

"It is those who act to violate the prohibition on chemical weapons who deserve our condemnation", Haley said in conclusion.

What will the United States do in response?

The Kremlin on Friday threatened to shoot down any missiles the USA may launch at Syria in response to the attack.

Guterres added that the situation in Syria is now the "most serious threat to global peace and security".
