1988 road rage case: Punjab government hypocrisy exposed, says Harsimrat Kaur

The hearing will be continued on April 17, 2018 when Sidhu's counsel senior advocate R S Cheema will give the rebuttal to state government's argument.

The Supreme Court commenced hearing the final arguments in the case on Thursday, almost 30 years after the man died.

There is some time left for the conclusion of this matter.

"I don't have any reactions, you submit to the majesty of the law", Sidhu told while addressing a press conference here. The top court later suspended Sidhu's conviction, to enable him to contest elections. Everything has come before all.

"The firemen and officers who risk their lives in the line of duty to save those of others deserve a well placed and a robust infrastructure which I promise would soon be a reality and the commencement of the "Fire Safety Week" throughout Punjab is a positive sign in this direction", he said. "Whatever the Punjab government said (in court), its explanation can be given by the chief minister", he said. It also accused the Congress government of playing a fixed match with Sidhu and of shielding him. "Similarly, in this case also, he is happy to be seen with Sidhu rather than the poor family that has lost an innocent member at his hands", SAD alleged.

Despite making 29 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, majority have been from the bench after starting just 14 of them this season.

BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh asked Sidhu to resign on moral grounds.

According to CNN News18, the lawyer appearing for the Punjab government told a bench of Justices J Chelameswar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul that the statement given by the former cricketer denying his involvement in the case is false.

"There is not a single evidence that suggest that the cause of death was cardiac arrest and not brain hemorrhage".

"It is beyond understanding how the trial court arrived at its finding that Gurnam Singh had died of cardiac arrest, when there was not a discussion or evidence about it. Doctors in cross-examination have said the cause of death was head injury", he said.

Sidhu had assaulted one Gurnam Singh over a parking dispute in Patiala in the year 1988. The Punjab minister had maintained that Gurnam Singh died of a heart attack. The High Court set aside the order in December 2006 and held them guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
