South African bowler Kagiso Rabada risks two-test ban with send-off

Kagiso Rabada is out of the remainder of the Test series against Australia unless he can overturn a level two charge for physical contact with the touring captain Steven Smith on day one in Port Elizabeth.

South Africa were 153 for 2 at tea, with Elgar and Amla unbeaten on 57 and 54 respectively.

The Australian bowlers made effective use of reverse swing, firstly to restrict the scoring and then as a weapon in all four wickets. "When you've got a world-class bowler like Rabada bowling at you in a spell like that, we've got to be better and we've got to be sharper".

Aaron Finch has condemned South Africa's role in the sledging war with Australia in the ongoing Test series, while defending David Warner's part in the high-profile Durban incident. The incident has the potential to see Rabada banned for the rest of the series. Their shoulders made contact. Rabada, following up on his bowling heroics, helped South Africa with 17 not out as nightwatchman.

Shaun Marsh (24) was also out leg before wicket before Mitchell Marsh went three balls later, edging through to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. Marsh trapped South Africa captain Faf du Plessis and Theunis de Bruyn lbw in successive overs. Cummins had Aiden Markram out late on the first day.

UNM in Dreamstyle Arena on February 14, scored 17 points, but was held to 3-of-8 shooting from the 3-point line. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-15.

Both Warner and de Kock received fines and disciplinary sanctions after their altercation in Durban. "On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families", commented CSA President Chris Nenzani in a CSA statement.

Nathan Lyon said he hadn't spoken to Smith. "I don't think anyone's read it, to be honest".

"If someone's treading close to the line as a teammate, you might have to pull them aside and say, "you're going a bit close there, ease up and pull back", Finch said.

The visitors were in a commanding position after opting to bat first and the fast bowler absolutely ran through their line-up just before the tea. They picked off the runs after that measured start, with Warner accelerating by hitting nine fours.

After Warner's departure South Africa came back with five wickets in the afternoon following a solid opening session for the tourists.
