Snapchat Apologizes To Rihanna Over Advert Trivializing Domestic Abuse

Snapchat has removed an advert from its platform after admitting it "makes light of domestic violence". In the ad, Snapchat asked users if they would rather "slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown".

The advert, featured on the California-based social media platform, appeared to reference Chris Brown's conviction for assaulting Rihanna in his vehicle after a pre-Grammy party in 2009.

The company also said the ad had been approved "in error", violated its advertising standards, and was immediately removed.

"Like what were they thinking with this?"

"We are sorry that this happened", the social media site has said about the ad.

The news comes as the company are dealing with a major drop in value, after Kylie Jenner dissed the app on Twitter.

Users on Twitter began noticing that an ad on Snapchat was using the domestic abuse incident between Rihanna and Chris Brown to comedic effect.

Miami Dolphins officially release former Husker Ndamukong Suh
With Suh hitting the open market, the 31-year-old's name automatically started getting linked to the New England Patriots. Suh played with the Dolphins for the past three seasons, recording 15.5 sacks and 13 passes defensed in 48 games.

Royce Mann was one of the first to tweet about the ad's offensive premise, and activists like Brittany Packnett helped the story gain traction.

Among those condemning the ad was former first-daughter Chelsea Clinton, who tweeted "Just terrible".

The update ain't the only thing that's wack over there, friends. Terrible that anyone thinks this is appropriate. "Very bad that any company would approve this", she wrote.

Brown was charged over an altercation with Rihanna, his then-girlfriend, in 2009, which left her with facial bruises and required hospitalisation.

Brown was arrested in 2009 for attacking Rihanna and sentenced to community service and domestic violence counselling.
