'Shambles' as millennial railcard site crashes

The popularity of the millennial railcard became clear this morning, after the website for people to get their hands on one crashed due to demand.

The cards could be applied for from today but as there are only 10,000 now available, they are being issued on a first-come, first-serve basis, the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) said.

The 26-30 card has been dubbed the millennial rail card, and was announced by Philip Hammond in his Budget speech in November, to give 4.5 million more people a third off their rail travel.

Many felt a cap on the amount of railcards available was thoroughly unfairWhile others were left raging at the amount of time it took to actually get oneSome smug travellers actually did manage to get a card despite lengthy waitBut it didn't seem to have the intended impact on millennials' opinion on politics...

This means that of the 5m Brits who are eligible for the card, only 10,000 cards will be available to the public.

Mourinho names the game that restored Man Utd's reputation
Mourinho has begun the process of reversing that decline, even though United snuck into the Champions League through the back door, by winning the Europa League last season.

Many passengers have expressed their frustration on social media at being unable to buy the cards. "Please bear with us". Critics said that the process was "worse than getting a Glastonbury ticket". "Sort out your website to make it fair!"

Some people have questioned why there is a need for another trial of the card, after a trial across the Great Anglia network proved successful.

National Railcards said the webpage had gone down after an "unprecedented" number of people visited the site on Tuesday morning, as a nationwide trial of the railcard was launched.

The limited number of railcards are being made available as part of a trial which is created to assess the take-up of cards and the impact they have on revenue and passenger numbers.

Currently, people aged 16-25 can buy a rail card to get a third off their fares, as well as couples in a Two Together scheme, or families in a group card.
