Poroshenko: Ukraine to impose sanctions against organizers of election in occupied Crimea

The sanctions, including travel restrictions and asset freezes against 150 people and 38 companies, would be extended until 15 September, the European Council said.

European Union headquarters said in a statement Monday that "an assessment of the situation did not justify a change in the sanctions regime".

Ukraine will not recognize the election of the president of Russian Federation in occupied Crimea and implement the sanctions against its organizers.

The European Union's 28 member states have prolonged economic sanctions against Moscow over the annexation of Crimea by another six months, the European Council said on Monday.

Weekend rain turns to sunshine; snow possible midweek
Breezy, with a north wind 10 to 20 miles per hour , with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour . New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Ukraine has been wracked by conflict since March 2014 following Russia's annexation of Crimea after an illegal independence vote.

Russia's annexation led Western powers, including the USA, to impose sanctions against Moscow.

Those on the sanctions list include Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Armed Forces General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov, and state TV presenter Dmitry Kiselyov.
