Michael Carrick to hang up his boots at end of the season

Carrick has played a limited role for United this season after undergoing a routine heart procedure following a League Cup tie with Burton in September.

The midfielder has thankfully returned since but ahead of the Champions League last-16 clash with Sevilla he announced his retirement at the end of the season, but his time with the club won't be over just yet stating that it is "likely" he will join José Mourinho's backroom staff.

Carrick grew up near Newcastle but moved to West Ham aged 15, where he made his professional debut.

The former England global stated that he is likely to next assume a first-team coaching role at Manchester United following the end of his playing career.

Labor, administrative costs drive U.S. healthcare spending far beyond other nations
Despite this, the United States still lags behind all other developed countries when it comes to the quality of said healthcare. Though utilization in many areas mirrored other nations, administrative costs in the US system dwarfed other countries.

The 36-year-old arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.

"There comes a time when, you like it or you don't like it, your body tells you it's time to stop playing football and that's pretty much where I'm at", Carrick said on Monday. It's something you have to accept. "But it's looking likely, yes".

He became a Champions League victor when United saw off Chelsea on penalties in Moscow in 2008 and, although he lost subsequent finals in Europe's top competition against Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, last season's Europa League triumph completed an individual clean sweep of major domestic and European club trophies. "But he's still got some way to go to fully establish himself as a big player for this club but so far he's on a great track, he's given himself the best possible chance to fulfil that." . "I've been training hard and we'll see what happens for the rest of the season", said Carrick. "There were two or three times when I wondered whether it was worth still playing, but I soon got over that".

'I understood after getting back fit that I wouldn't be playing as many games as perhaps I might have done, but that's something that I understood. At least I could decide and not be forced because of that, so I was determined to get back fit.
