The narrow-collared suits and slim woollen dresses Givenchy designed for the gamine actress for "Funny Face" and "How to Steal a Million" made both of them style icons.

It was also the Givenchy look that former U.S. first lady Jacqueline Kennedy adopted for her White House years, sticking to a uniform of shifts dresses, pillbox hats and low-heeled pumps.

Kennedy Wore the Ziberline dress in 1961 to a dinner at The Palace Of Versailles In France.

De Givenchy founded one of the world's leading fashion houses in Paris in the 1950s and then struck out for NY, going on to build a business empire that became part of the LVMH empire when he sold up in at the end of the 1980s.

He founded his label in 1952, selling it to luxury conglomerate LVMH in 1988.

He dressed a plethora of fabulous women, including Princess Grace of Monaco, Jackie Onassis, Jane Fonda and the Duchess of Windsor. He was succeeded by some of the world's top designers including the infamous John Galliano, the legendary Alexander McQueen and creative Riccardo Tisci.
