Ex-Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson signs 1-year deal with Packers

After his release from New York, Wilkerson first visited Green Bay before meeting with the Saints, Chiefs and Redskins in recent days. Not long after adding tight end Jimmy Graham on a three-year deal, the Packers bolstered their defense by bringing in a player new defensive coordinator is Mike Pettine is familiar with in Muhammad Wilkerson.

A former first-round pick, Wilkerson agreed to terms with the Packers on Tuesday, a source told ESPN.

The deal is for one year, $5 million plus an additional $3 million in incentives, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

NY officially released Wilkerson on February 28.

New Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst indicated he might use free agency more than predecessor Ted Thompson did, and that's coming to fruition early in the period.

The energy department did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the report, nor did the White House. Current and former VA employees have also emailed unconfirmed statements of mismanagement stemming from the agency .

Wilkerson was released by the Jets last month after failing to ultimately live up to his big-time contract extension. The team terminated that contract after only two years. Wilkerson produced eight sacks in 28 games over the past two seasons.

Wilkerson, 28, was benched for the final three games of last season, ostensibly because he was late for a meeting on December 15; it marked the fourth time since 2015 he was disciplined for tardiness.

The last time Wilkerson was in Green Bay, he was ejected for fighting.

Wilkerson has proved to be a disruptive force against both the pass and the run when healthy and motivated, which could make him a steal of a signing.

With Wilkerson now in the fold, the Packers have a formidable defensive line that also includes Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark.
