Craig Mack, Rapper Known For 'Flava In Ya Ear,' Dead At 46

Craig Mack, the NY rapper who found fame on Diddy's Bad Boy label, has died at the age of 46 years old.

Mack was a protégé of Diddy, who signed him to his Bad Boy Entertainment record label.

Mack's producer Alvin Toney confirmed news of his death. He was a good friend of mine. "He wasn't scared. He was ready", said the music producer.

According to the New York Daily News, Mack died of heart failure in hospital near his home in SC on Monday.

"Nobody got to understand his story", Toney said. "Flava In Ya Ear" gave the label its first platinum single while a subsequent remix featured an early appearance from Notorious B.I.G.

Toney noted that Mack is survived by a wife and two adult children.

"Just A Friend" rapper Biz Markie wrote on IG, "R.I.P TO MY MAIN MAN CRAIG MACK ANOTHER GREAT ONE GONE...." He would set up & break down my turntables every night on tour. He released his summer hit, "Flava in Ya Ear", in 1994.

After the huge commercial success of the original single, the song's remix introduced hip hop fans to "The Notorious BIG", whose debut "Ready To Die" turned out to be even more successful by outselling Mack's "Project: Funk Da World" by a significant amount.

It's being reported that Mack, who rose to fame after joining Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records and then releasing the mega smash "Flava In Ya Ear", died in the early hours of this morning.

Mack's 1994 hit single "Flava In Ya Ear" has come to be considered a hip-hop classic, and it also appeared in a recent auto commercial as motivational music.
