Charles Manson's grandson wins battle for killer's corpse

Also dismissed was a will submitted by Michael Channels, a former pen pal of Manson who argued that the killer had disinherited his natural family and made him his sole beneficiary in 2002.

Kern County Superior Court Judge Alisa Knight ruled in favour of Mr Freeman as the son of Charles Manson Jr, who killed himself in 1993.

Freeman did not immediately clarify his plans for disposing of the body, according to The Associated Press, but has "previously said he would cremate and spread the ashes of Manson and put to rest 'this so-called monster, this historical figure that shouldn't have been blown up as big as it was for all these years'".

Manson died in November while serving a life sentence for directing a notorious killing spree in Los Angeles in 1969. A Kern County Superior Court commissioner ruled Monday that Jason Freeman of Florida can collect the remains of Manson from the morgue in Bakersfield.

Manson was convicted of seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Tate, the La Biancas and four other people at the Tate residence - coffee heiress Abigail Ann Folger, photographer Wojciech Frykowski, hairdresser Jay Sebring and Steven Earl Parent, who was shot and killed in his vehicle on his way to visit an acquaintance who lived in a separate rented guest house on the Tate property.

The three all tried to cast doubt on the authenticity of the competing claims and Freeman largely won out because of problems with the other petitions. He said Channels had used his contacts with Manson to generate memorabilia to pay his mortgage while also denigrating the killer in conversations with others.

Charles Manson's remains will go to a man who claims to be his grandson.

Although Knight found that there was enough evidence to prove that Brunner was Manson's son, he gave up his right as an heir after being adopted by his maternal grandparents.

Following the completion of the transaction, the insider now owns 178,904 shares of the company's stock, valued at $16,441,277.60. The stock of Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) earned "Underweight" rating by Barclays Capital on Monday, November 30.

Although some raised question about whether Freeman was really Manson's grandson, Knight determined he was "the surviving competent adult next of kin".

A purported son of Manson, Michael Brunner, objected to Freeman's claim.

But Knight rejected those claims.

The alleged grandson, Jason Freeman, says he wants to cremate the body.

Almost all interested parties have suggested others want to profit off Manson's death by selling photos of the corpse to tabloid publications.

In the estate battle, purported Manson daughter Rebecca Evans, 48, and son Matthew Roberts, 49, have also filed claims.

While Knight's ruling settles the dispute over Manson's remains, what happens with his estate, including music royalties, and commercial rights to his writings, drawings, and other memorabilia is yet to be decided in a Los Angeles court later this week.
