CDC says missing doctor not passed over for promotion

In the statement, she refers to "news coverage that Commander Cunningham recently did not receive a promotion.this information is incorrect", she said.

The acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention denied on Monday that an employee who has been missing for a month was passed over for a promotion before his disappearance.

Despite reports he disappeared right after he was passed over for a promotion, Dr. Schuchat said he'd been given an "early" promotion to the rank of commander, effective July 1 of past year, for his "exemplary performance".

They also closed with a message to Cunningham directly.

The Cunningham's have helped fund a $15,000 Crime Stoppers reward to help generate solid leads in their son's disappearance.

Authorities have said no evidence of foul play was involved in Cunningham's disappearance.

Schuchat said the agency hasn't given up hope that Cunningham will be found.

"Today marks one month since Commander (CDR) Timothy Cunningham was last seen, and we have not given up hope that he will soon be found", Dr. Schuchat said. "If anyone reading this has information about the whereabouts of Commander Cunningham, please come forward", Dr. Schuchat said Monday.

"Our information came directly from the CDC", Chafee said in a statement.

Those with details that may be helpful to this investigation are asked to call 911 or the Atlanta Police Department at 404-546-4235.

Initial reports by Atlanta police indicated that Cunningham, 35, vanished without a trace February 12 after being turned down for a promotion.

Cunningham left his office February 12 saying he was not feeling well.
