Browns Look to Sign Nate Solder

Browns Look to Sign Nate Solder

Cleveland's star left offensive tackle has not yet informed the team on his future plans, and the uncertainty is influencing the Browns' plans in National Football League free agency. The Texans started five players at the position in 2017 and the two-time Super Bowl champion would be a potential upgrade over any combination of Kendall Lamm, Julien Davenport, Chris Clark, Jeff Allen, and Breno Giacomini. Netting Solder as a replacement for Thomas and then potentially adding Saquon Barkley in the draft would be quite the overhaul on that side of the ball and make Cleveland's offense pretty intriguing heading into 2018.

Source says Browns are making a big run at Nate Solder to replace Joe Thomas at left tackle.

Only one of five players in history selected to the Pro Bowl in his first 10 seasons, Thomas had never missed a snap in his career before he got hurt while blocking on a routine running play against Tennessee on October 22. But at least on Wednesday, the Browns will have a clearer vision of how they'll approach the rest of their offseason as they enter the new league year. The Texans and Broncos have also been linked.

The Browns have about $78 million in salary cap room available.

Ex-Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson signs 1-year deal with Packers
The deal is for one year, $5 million plus an additional $3 million in incentives, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. With Wilkerson now in the fold, the Packers have a formidable defensive line that also includes Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark .

Teams always end up over-paying free agents; Andrew Norwell, a left guard who earned $2.7 million from Carolina last year, has a five-year, $66.5 million contract with Jacksonville in place.

Another team in on Patriots OT Nate Solder: The New York Giants.

"I've seen him putting (weight) back on now here recently, but he's Joe", Browns coach Hue Jackson told reporters at the Combine earlier this month.

The Browns were 10-6 in Thomas' rookie year.
