Windows 10 gets Ultimate Performance mode

Windows 10 gets Ultimate Performance mode

The new program - information about which leaked over this past weekend - allows Windows Insider testers to opt in to preview individual apps, rather than having to be part of the "Skip Ahead" ring to get the latest app updates. Microsoft will be pushing app updates to Skip Ahead Insiders just like before.

Essentially, what's happening here is that we've reached the point where the next Windows 10 update (Redstone 4) is nearly due, so therefore close to finalized, and thus Microsoft has begun work on Redstone 5 testing, releasing an initial build to Insiders who've previously chosen the "skip ahead" ring.

This initial preview build of Redstone 5 includes no noteworthy new features or changes over the Redstone 4 build, which is to be expected as development on Redstone 5 has not long started.

In this case, Ultimate Performance is generally not built for gamers, as most would generally run consumer grade hardware and run a commercially available version of Microsoft's operating system.

Insiders can opt in to test preview versions of the following apps: Feedback Hub, Microsoft Photos, Microsoft Sticky Notes, Microsoft Tips, Paint 3D, Windows Alarms & Clock, Windows Calculator, Windows Camera, Windows Mixed Reality Viewer and Windows Voice Recorder.

Microsoft today officially announced the new Windows App Preview Program.

The Moto Z2 Force at Rs 34999 could 'shatter' its competitors
It comes with a 5.5-inch POLED ShatterShield display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, you will find the latest octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform which is clocked at 2.35GHz.

To sign up, you can either go to Settings, or the About page of the app and click the "Join preview" button.

In addition to the new power scheme, the new Windows 10 testing builds enhance the UWP File System Access by giving more controls to you to decide which UWP apps can access your full file system.

Insiders who are in the Skip Ahead ring will now be flighted Redstone 5 builds instead, with today's first preview rolling out as build 17604.

Microsoft is limiting the number of people who can join previews, but will open up more slots gradually.

That's where the Windows App Preview Program comes in.

Ultimate Performance is not now available on battery-powered systems, but this could change as the feature is rolled out.
