Missing skier found at Calif. airport but says he didn't fly there

Authorities in Sacramento are releasing new information about a missing Whiteface skier who turned up six days later in California.

New York State Police shared this photo of Constantinos (Danny) Filippidis, 49, after he went missing on Whiteface Mountain.

He made contact with local authorities there, ending a multi-agency search at Whiteface Mountain ski resort in Wilmington, New York.

The investigation is ongoing, and police said details will be released at a later date.

Constantinos "Danny" Filippidis, 49, of Toronto disappeared from Whiteface Resort in upstate NY last Wednesday during an annual trip organized by a group of off-duty Toronto firefighters.

"We are 3000 members, a tight-knit family; we really hope there's a positive outcome here", said Dan Vieira with the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association.

Deputies say Filippidis called 911 from the Sacramento International Airport.

"He identified himself and he was transported from our custody to a local hospital where he is getting treatment", Sgt. Shaun Hampton with Sacramento police told CP24 in an interview over the phone on Tuesday evening.

King said he "understands the president's reluctance" on the issue because Trump thinks the Russian story undermines his 2016 election victory.

Hampton said Filippidis told officials he slept for a great deal of the trip from the east to west coast of the United States.

"He related to the officers that he had been skiing in NY, he believed he had hit his head or had been hit in the head", Hampton said. When police located Filippidis they were concerned and got him medical attention, according to Ramagnano, who said it was his understanding that Filippidis was still receiving medical care.

Filippidis still was wearing the same clothing he had on when he was reported missing last Wednesday, including the helmet and goggles he was last seen in when he was reported missing. "They'll do a comprehensive investigation", Ramagnano said.

Numerous organizations, including the Toronto Area Fire Services and volunteers, were part of the search party which totalled over 140 people, including close to a 100 firefighters as of Tuesday.

"I saw the pain in his kids eyes when we were there". No one knows yet.

"We are all very relieved to know that he is safe, following what has been an exhaustive search operation", said Toronto fire chief Matthew Pegg.

He went on to thank those who aided in the search.
