James Comey helps Federal Bureau of Investigation in Twitter rant

Comey defended the agency against the Republican effort to release the Nunes memo on Thursday and warned that "weasels and liars" would not stand the test of time.

.

While Comey is right, in that there aren't a lot of federal institutions named after famed demagogue McCarthy, there are certainly statues and schools named after leaders of the Confederacy, not to mention a building named for another former FBI director - J.

On Twitter, Comey urged his former colleagues to "take heart: American history shows that, in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field, so long as good people stand up".

It was also reported on Thursday that White House aides are fearful current FBI Director Christopher Wray will quit his post in the standoff over the release of the controversial memo about the Russian Federation probe - leading to yet another tumultuous turnover in the administration.

The FBI and the U.S justice department, as well as Democrats and some Republicans, have voiced opposition to the memo being released.

Mr. Trump said he had given to Congress, which has now released it.
