E-way bill mandatory roll out postponed due to technical glitches: Government

In a move aimed at facilitating hassle-free movement of goods, the Department of Commercial Taxes and Registration said on Wednesday that the e-way bill system would be mandatory from February 1.

"We are in discussions with the GST Network on what has happened". Within this fortnight itself over 28.4 lakh e-way bills were generated, which indicates a large amount of acceptance of the new system among registered traders.

With the E-way bill generation platform facing technical glitches, the Government on Thursday said it is extending the trial period for e-way bill. June 1 was approved as the rollout date for the e-way bill mechanism for both inter-state and intra-state movement of goods, with the states having the option to choose their own deadlines for implementation for intra-state movement of goods before June 1, 2018.

Phachara and Bertasio share lead at Maybank Championship
Bertasio flooded his scorecard with red on his opening nine today, scribbling birdies at 12, 13, 14, 17 and 18 against a lone bogey of the round at 14.

It is one of the GST provisions yet to be implemented.

However, trade and industry had been concerned that it would lead to delays in transport of goods and harassment by tax officials, and had also called for its deferment to ensure that the IT system was fully in place. It is good that the government has been quick to defer it. However, the government has not clarified how long the trial will run.

E-way bills were introduced in the GST framework to prevent tax evasion and underreporting of transaction values.
