Dev Patel to Star in Armando Iannucci's 'David Copperfield' Film

Dev Patel has been cast to play David Copperfield in a new retelling by writer/director Armando Iannucci. In the novel, the character of David Copperfield rises from poverty to become a lucrative author. He is also the creator of the award-winning HBO series, Veep, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Moreover, the original film describes the journey of the titular character.Further, the film is going to be financed by Kevin Loader and Iannucci along with FilmNation developing it.

The film will be written by Iannucci and Simon Blackwell and the shoot will commence in June in the UK. The duo had earlier collaborated with Tony Roche and Jesse Armstrong for the 2009 project In the Loop. On the other hand, Patel's directorial debut, a short film titled Home Shopper, was recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival while he is now working on Michael Winterbottom's drama The Wedding Guest as well.
