Cards coach Steve Wilks announces Larry Fitzgerald is coming back

Fitzgerald owns numerous National Football League records, including the most seasons with 90 or more receptions (eight) and the most receptions (30), receiving yards (546) and touchdowns (eight) in one postseason.

New Arizona Cardinals coach Steve Wilks has filled out his coaching staff with the hiring of 11 assistants. That's a challenge for a receiver who will be 35 before the season kicks off.

"Larry mentioned to me last night that he's coming back for the 2018 season".

Fitzgerald had been evaluating his options after Bruce Arians announced his retirement and Steve Wilks was hired to take over as head coach.

The feeling had been that Fitzgerald would play again, in part because he was willing to sign a contract extension in early November for 2018.

The world champion - and the standout racer of the classic World Cup downhills in January - was 0.18 behind Svindal's winning time of 1 minute, 40.25 seconds.

"I'm excited about what the future holds", he said.

Fitzgerald made the decision not knowing who the Cardinals will have at quarterback. He has earned Pro Bowl bids while topping 100 catches and 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons, finishing 2017 with 109 receptions and 1,156 yards for six scores.

Stanton went 79 of 159 for 894 yards in 2017 with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

The 11-time Pro Bowler will enter the 2018 season as the NFL's active leader in catches (1,234), receiving yards (15,545), and is second behind Antonio Gates in touchdown receptions (110). He needs 92 catches to overtake Tony Gonzalez, and 390 yards to pass newly-minted Hall-of-Famer Terrell Owens. "We've got one of the greatest players ever coming back".
