Vikings activate Sam Bradford to 53-man roster

Vikings activate Sam Bradford to 53-man roster

Bradford's activation does not guarantee he will be among the 46 active players Sunday, and it's unclear whether Bridgewater will continue to back up Keenum as he has been doing since Week 10 or whether the Vikings will turn to Bradford now that he is back on the active roster.

Bradford, who was placed on IR on November 8 with a left knee injury, returned to practice last week and completed his fifth practice Friday.

The Vikings waived tight end Kyle Carter to make room for Bradford.

The Boston Globe reported Bradford will suit up for the first time since Week 5, but when asked about the report during his news conference on Friday, Zimmer said, "I don't know how the Boston Globe would know because I haven't made any decisions yet".

"I would very surprised if (Zimmer) dresses three quarterbacks for this game, " said Joe Theismann, a longtime National Football League analyst who won a Super Bowl as Washington's starting quarterback in the 1982 season.

Bradford, Bridgewater and Case Keenum are all scheduled to become free agents after the season, and Bradford's return to health during the playoffs could help his case if he hits the open market in March.

"A lot of guys who are starters don't think they need it anymore because they're getting reps on the field", Belch told Cronin.

The Vikings have four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster: Keenum, Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater and Kyle Sloter. He injured his left knee in that game, and was out until returning October 9 at Chicago. Bradford, who completed 27 of his 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' season-opening win over New Orleans, twisted his left knee in the game, and missed the team's next three games before making a truncated return on October 9 against the Bears. Keenum led three second-half scoring drives in relief of Bradford as the Vikings beat the Bears 20-17.

Bradford has participated in five practices since returning January 2.

Keenum also held a passer rating above 100 eight times this season while tossing multiple touchdowns seven times.
