Trump Offers Vague Denial About Language on Immigrants

President Donald Trump denies calling Haiti, El Salvador and a few African countries "s-hole countries" during a lawmaker meeting in the Oval Office Thursday, but some people don't believe him - including leaders from some of those countries. Trump during the session with members of Congress reportedly questioned why the US should accept more people from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa instead of from nations such as Norway.

Trump's comments were allegedly made on Thursday at a White House meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform.

Trump later tweeted Friday morning that he never said anything derogatory. In a tweet, Trump denied the report, saying "this was not the language used".

Haiti's ambassador in Washington has also asked for an apology, as Trump reportedly specifically questioned the protections granted to Haitian immigrants after the natural disaster. He also reportedly suggested that the United States should bring in more people from countries like Norway.

In a statement it said it had asked the USA government, through its ambassador, to "clarify" if the derogatory remark also applied to Botswana given that there were Botswana nationals living in the United States and others who wished to go there. Richard Durbin of IL, the lone Democrat present in the Oval Office at the time, said Trump's denial was false and the president had said things that were "hate-filled, vile and racist".

"But we've got this flexible definition about what a racist is. There is a serious need for dialogue between the US Administration and the African countries".
