Tracking Snow Chances as Arctic Air Begins Our Week

Tracking Snow Chances as Arctic Air Begins Our Week

Overall, the weather pattern next week favors more of a typical Carolina winter storm setup, where areas of the northern and western parts of the Carolinas have the best risk of snow and ice, while areas closer to the coast see mainly a cold rain with a few flurries possible.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with light snow developing. Plenty of sun shines down with high pressure overhead, but the source of that high pressure is the Canadian north, so it doesn't do much to warm us up.

The deep freeze will really take hold on Tuesday with lows dropping into the single digits and risky wind chill values from -5 to -10.

After a frigid Saturday night, temperatures will only make it to the upper teens on Sunday. Monday night we will bottom out around zero degrees, with wind chills from 10 to 20 degrees below zero. That not as bad as yesterday, but enough to keep wind chills in the teens. For related traffic news, check out Dr. Gridlock. Afternoon high temperatures will climb to the mid 50s with dry conditions. Areas of sunshine look to gradually return by afternoon, and a south-southwest wind will help usher our afternoon highs into the mid to upper 40s across eastern Oklahoma!

Snow in forecast tonight, Sunday
The combination of snow and ice will result in hard travel conditions, potentially for both the morning and evening commutes. The Winter Weather Advisory affects portions of southeast MI and will be in effect until 7 p.m.

Today, temperatures will drop to near 40 for daytime readings and overnight lows will drop well into the 20s.

Thursday's unseasonable warmth that sent Chicago-area highs surging to around 60 is now but a distant memory as a strong arctic blast sent area temperatures tumbling to the teens by Friday evening. Snow showers taper off Monday afternoon leaving light accumulations.

Day: A slight chance of snow through the morning.
