Russian Federation confirms helicopter crash in Syria killed 2

Since September 2015, Russia, a major military ally of Syrian government, has been carrying out an air campaign in the country.

A Syrian local source said the crash took place on December 31, 2017.

The video marks "something of a shift in tone" from the ministry, Newsweek says, compared to its usual focus on "the actions and whereabouts of its two-legged members of the armed forces". Other outlets or government agencies have not verified the claims.

According to the ministry, the two pilots died in a hard landing 9 miles away from the airfield.

The statement denied that the helicopter crashed following an attack.

In a bid to stall further demonstrations, the authorities block access to online messaging services, including Telegram. Uttering those words in public is enough to earn you a charge of enmity toward god and a death sentence.

There was no hostile fire on the helicopter, the ministry added.

Moscow acknowledged in recent months that its special forces are also active on the ground in the offensive against the Daesh terror group extremists.

Russian Federation announced last month that it had accomplished its military mission and would focus on rebuilding the country and preserving peace.

Meanwhile, the leader of Hezbollah said on Wednesday the Syrian war, now in its seventh year, will be finished in one or two years at most.

In a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Putin said Russian Federation would continue to support Syria.
