Michael O'Neill set for talks over Scotland manager's job

MICHAEL O'NEILL will hold talks with the SFA this week after a compensation package with the Northern Irish FA was agreed.

The IFA had initially given O'Neill permission to speak to Scotland on November 17 at a board meeting, subject to the SFA agreeing to pay release clause.

Any deal to O'Neill himself will show a significant boost to the £500,000 per year terms as given to Strachan but a long way short of the £1m a year salary as speculated from Northern Ireland when Switzerland emerged victorious from a World Cup play-off between the pair.

Scotland are prepared to make O'Neill the highest paid manager in their history but the offer is still likely to be dwarfed by Northern Ireland who have already tabled a six-year deal worth a reported £750,000 per annum. This would include a lucrative bonus for ending a major finals wait which stretches back to 1998.

Fasano Slams Trump For "Shithole" Comment
Trump says the "so-called bipartisan" deal "was a big step backwards" because it doesn't fund a wall along the Mexican border. The fallout from alleged vulgar comments President Donald Trump made about immigration from Africa and Haiti continues.

Sunderland failed with overtures towards O'Neill and his immediate future now looks to be on the global stage but he has stressed a desire to see the matter resolved in the near future.

Regan will need to convince the former Hibernian and Dundee United star that masterminding a Scotland revival will give a major bounce to his managerial career.

The draw for the Uefa Nations League will take place in Lausanne on 24 January and O'Neill is due to be there with Northern Ireland but the SFA hope to persuade him to jump ship before then.

Edinburgh-based O'Neill guided Northern Ireland to the Euro 2016 finals and only missed out on qualification for the World Cup Finals in Russian Federation following a controversial penalty decision which gave Switzerland the edge in a tense play-off over two legs.
