Iran Rejects Trump's Demands to Change 2015 Nuclear Deal

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he will extend sanctions relief on Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal for the last time, threatening a US withdrawal from the landmark pact unless US Congress and European allies can fix the alleged "disastrous flaws".

Trump made the threat as he extended waivers of key economic sanctions on Iran, keeping the accord alive at least for now.

The US Treasury Friday announced sanctions on 14 Iranian individuals and entities, including the head of Iran's judiciary, Sadeq Larijani, for human rights abuses and supporting Tehran's ballistic missile programme.

But the angst in Berlin, Brussels, London and Paris underlined what is at stake: the mercurial USA president is quite capable of sabotaging the agreement.

In accordance with a mechanism set up by Congress, the nuclear agreement has to be re-assessed by an American president every 90 days. "Iran should be denied all paths to a nuclear weapon. forever".

After Tehran had implemented its part of the deal, which was confirmed during IAEA's inspection trips, on January 16, 2016 the USA administration under President Barack Obama lifted sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program.

The White House wants European Union signatories to agree permanent restrictions on Iran's uranium enrichment.

"One of the single greatest flaws is its restrictions leave Iran free... to openly develop their nuclear program and rapidly achieve a nuclear weapons breakout capability".

The United States has failed to undermine the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a statement broadcast on state television.

Trump says US-Norway ties 'robust'
One of the sources who was briefed on the conversation said that Trump said, "Why do we want all these people from Africa here?" Solberg, by contrast, cited her support of the agreement, which she said would help American businesses.

Trump is also urging Congress to reform U.S. law so the president is no longer required to declare every 90 days whether he thinks Iran is in compliance, or to renew sanctions waivers every 120 or 180 days. He also called on Iran to stay calm and continue to fulfil obligations under the deal.

The accord, he added, can be considered "either good or bad, but it is the only one that reflects this consensus", Peskov added at a press conference.

Trump's declaration puts great pressure on Britain, France and Germany, the European signatories to nuclear pact with Iran.

The EU said in a statement it had taken note of Trump's decision and would assess its implications.

Iran said on Saturday it would retaliate against the new sanctions, although it did not specify how.

"Is he bluffing? I don't think so". But it has said it would "shred" the deal if Washington quit.

The agreement, she said, is "making the world safer and... preventing a potential nuclear arms race in the region".

Iran has said that if the USA walks away from the agreement, it is ready to give an "appropriate and heavy response". Washington also imposed sanctions on the head of Iran's judiciary and others.

In his lengthy statement, Trump said the US would work with European partners to remove the nuclear deal's so-called "sunset clauses", which allow Iran to gradually resume advanced atomic activity.
