Country Music Responds to Donald Trump's 'Shithole Countries' Remarks

The White House did not initially deny the remarks but Trump later denied using the controversial words in a tweet.

The remarks were revealed by Democrat Senator Dick Durbin and people briefed on the extraordinary Oval Office conversation. He also rejected the idea of restoring protections for immigrants from those countries, suggesting the those from nations like Norway would be more welcome in the U.S.

When Ryan asked her in February if he planned to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus, he replied: "I'll tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting?" he said. "What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!"

Narkewicz is one of a number of MA officials who have come out to chastise the president for his alleged remarks, including U.S. Sens. As he smiled and greeted those standing beside him, reporters erupted with questions about his statement on African and Haitian immigrants.

Another Republican Representative, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Cuba and whose south Florida district includes many Haitian immigrants, said: "Language like that shouldn't be heard in locker rooms and it shouldn't be heard in the White House".

Day, noting the contributions of a "great American hero". "He used those words", Durbin said.

Mr Trump continued: "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!" he added.

US Commerce Department wraps up steel probe, does not detail findings
Steelworkers have been calling for quicker action, since they say levels of imports have risen during the investigation. A similar national security probe into aluminum imports invoking the same Cold War-era trade law is due on January 22.

Trump defended his "tough" rhetoric on immigration, but said he didn't say anything derogatory toward immigrants. Trump was reported to have said in an Oval Office meeting on immigration reform, according to two people who spoke with the Washington Post. Durbin recounted that Trump went on to discuss similarly protected immigration from Africa, "calling the nations they come from s-holes".

Many lawmakers have condemned the comments as racist and unbecoming of the presidency.

Durbin said that for Graham "to confront the president as he did, literally sitting next to him, took extraordinary political courage and I respect him for it".

As expected, Trump's reported comments have incited enormous backlash from all over the world.

"The "dreamers" are young people who were brought to our country through no fault of their own, often as young children, by their parents", Frelinghuysen said.

The White House did not deny Trump's "shithole" comments in describing countries where the majority of residents are persons of color. "I'm sorry, but there's no other word one can use but racist", United Nations spokesman Rupert Colville said Friday.
