Bella Emberg, the British comic actress best known for her role in The Russ Abbot Show, has died aged 80, her agent confirmed last night.

Emberg was described by Russ Abbot, with whom she appeared on The Russ Abbot Show aas Blunderwoman, as a "a woman of enormous warmth and generosity".

Comedians Les Dennis, Paul Chuckle and Russ Abbot are among those who have paid tribute to the comedy actress.

Friend and pianist Bobby Crush said: "Such sad news.my wonderful friend Bella Emberg has passed away".

More recently she appeared alongside the comedian Matt Lucas in Pompidou and became one of relatively few actors to have appeared in Doctor Who before and after its revival.

Abbot said she was 'a genuinely amusing woman, but most of all a woman of enormous warmth and generosity. She was not only a great sport but a huge comedy talent. A genuinely amusing woman, I count myself very lucky to have worked alongside her.

One of the series' producers, Charlie Hanson, said Emberg was a "lovely and amusing woman" and a "brilliant" actress.

Emberg had just completed filming on new Sky One comedy In the Long Run, created by Idris Elba, and due to be released later this year.
