Virginia Tech routs Radford

The Hokies (8-1) won their sixth straight game.

Justin Bibbs of Tech was 4 of 4 from the field in the first half, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range.

Kerry Blackshear was 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

Besides the 20 points, Blackshear finished with six rebounds, but perhaps the most important stat was that he was a ideal 11/11 from the foul line.

"I think we took the loss to St. Louis (on November 16) really well", Robinson said. "We turned it around right away and have building on it ever since". However, outside of an early four-point lead in the first minute of the game, they were easily handled by the Hokies.

Virginia Tech shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and Radford was 1 of 10 from long range.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker, the outstanding true freshman out of Toronto, also had nine points in tonight's contest. Perhaps more importantly, the Hokies committed just eight turnovers - a season low.

The Hokies shot 62.0 percent from the field in the win. "That was our lowest turnover rate. I think those two things are always tied together". Unsurprisingly, the Hokies took care of business in a game that was never really close. Tech outrebounded RU 13-11 in the half.

Aberdeen Dig Heels In On Derek McInnes, Rangers' Approach Rebuffed
The Aberdeen manager has been linked with taking over at Ibrox ever since Pedro Caixinha was sacked in October. But it's not just McInnes' future that could rest on the next few days.

With his 20 points in the game, Bibbs passed Dick Sayre and Rolan Roberts into 34 place in career scoring at Virginia Tech, with 1,176 career points.

"We all were taking flawless shots", Blackshear said. "I thought that, right from the beginning, their first 14 points, 11 of them were because of transition, so they were able to get out and do what they do best - which is push the ball in transition". Devin Wilson had 5 points in 12 minutes of play and he played well, helping control the ball and giving the team a sense of leadership at times when they needed it most.

"We settled for jump shots, they weren't going tonight and that's where the discipline comes in to just continue the game plan".

Radford: The Highlanders were competitive in road losses at Ohio State and Vanderbilt, but they weren't much of a match for the Hokies. Tech outrebounded RU 28-24.

Virginia Tech: The Hokies' future opponents would do well to keep Virginia Tech off the free-throw line. This is the ninth time in school history that a Hokie has shot at least 10 free throws in a game and made every free throw attempted. Tech entered the game leading the nation and the ACC in field goal percentage.

Kerry Blackshear also had 20 points for Tech. It was something I kept in mind. Meanwhile, Blackshear was 4-of-6 from the field, made his only three-point attempt, and was a ideal 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

"It was something I wanted to improve on in the offseason, as well as last season", Blackshear said. Against a Radford team that is well coached and well-tested, the Hokies played very well, did not make a ton of mistakes, and held Radford to under 70 points which is a pretty good defensive game.

Radford returns home to face Division II Erskine College on Saturday.
