However, the Attorney General K K Venugopal had said linking of Aadhaar with mobile services will only remain until 6 February next year in pursuance of the judicial order.

The apex court on 30 October had said that a Constitution Bench would commence hearing on the clutch of petitions against Aadhaar scheme from the last week of November.

The government has made Aadhaar linking mandatory for bank accounts, PAN cards, mobiles, pensions, scholarships, LPG connections, Public Provident Fund, NSCs and KVPs and more.

This year, the government made the quoting of Aadhaar mandatory for filing income tax returns (ITRs) as well as obtaining a new PAN. It is also mandatory to link PAN Card with Aadhaar card. "So, all the Benami transactions will go", the official said.

A bench comprising Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan was told by the advocates representing the petitioners that "panic" was being caused among the people as the messages sent by the banks and mobile service providers were warning them the services would be deactivated if Aadhaar is not linked.

The petitioners Arvind Datar and KV Vishwananathan also pointed out that the bank linking and phone linking were entirely illegal and sans authority, responding to which the Court said, "The Constitution Bench is due to hear the main Aadhaar case in November end would consider these issues too".

Citizens are required to link their 12-digit unique identification number with government services, PAN cards, mobile numbers and bank accounts.
