Israel says F-35 stealth fighter jets operational

The Israel Air Force announced a "new era" in the country's defenses Wednesday, as the first of Israel's F-35 planes were declared field-ready.

Air Force chief Maj.

Following the original agreement to purchase 50 warplanes, Israel's Defense Ministry in August finalized the acquisition of 17 additional F-35 stealth fighter jets from the US.

Major General Amikam Norkin, Commander of the IAF said, "The declaration of the squadron's operational capability is occurring at a time in which the IAF is operating on a large scale in a number of fronts, in the constantly changing Middle East the operational challenge, which is becoming more and more complex each day, receives an excellent aerial response". The rest will be delivered in batches through the end of 2024, the IAF said. The American pilots that come to us didn't experience that because they fly there, in Arizona, in Florida.

The F-35 combines advanced low-observable stealth technology with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment support, according to the firm.

Rhumbline Advisers Raises Position in Fluor Corporation (FLR)

Made by US-based Lockheed Martin, the Jets are the most expensive in history, with the first 33 sold to Israel at an average of about $110 million each.

This is another expression of the cooperation and the special strategic relationship between Israel and the United States.

The remaining 41 jets will be delivered in multiple installments during the next several years.

Israel began establishing the "Golden Eagle" squadron upon the arrival of the first F-35, or "Adir" as it is called in Israel, in December 2016.

Israel receives over $3 billion a year from the United States in military aid, and last year, the two countries agreed on a new aid package that will see Israel receive $3.8 billion annually through 2028, the vast majority of which must be used on purchases from American defense companies.
