Egyptian cleric warns against moving embassies to Jerusalem

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair visited the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Al-Azhar World Observatory and the head office of World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates (WAAG) during his two day visit to Egypt.

Egypt's Al-Azhar warned today of the United States (US) administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, media sources reported. He highlighted the importance of coordination between Al-Azhar and European countries in combating extremist ideologies. Al-Azhar added that "this is one of the main reasons of [the spread of] terrorism across the world".

Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa also directed that Friday's sermons at all mosques across Egypt will be about the same issue of Jerusalem, arguing that all Arabs stand together against all trials to change Jerusalem's Arab identity.

El-Tayeb also called for an urgent meeting of Al-Azhar's Council of Senior Scholars as well as the worldwide Muslim Council of Elders to discuss the implications of Trump's decision.
