Ellen Page to star in The Umbrella Academy series

The 30-year-old Juno star will lead the cast of the live-action series, which follows a family of dysfunctional superheroes as they investigate the mysterious death of their father.

Page is set to play Vanya, the only sibling that lacks a power-but she does apparently have boss violin skills, which plays a huge role in the plot of the story. Vanya is Reginald's adopted daughter, and doesn't seem to have any superpowers of her own. Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Bluegrass Television with Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment. A meek and insecure wallflower, Vanya struggles to find her place in the world.

The former My Chemical Romance frontman unveiled his first graphic novel release 'The Umbrella Academy' back in 2006, at the San Diego Comic-Con. "We're excited to see this world and introduce these unforgettable heroes to Netflix members around the globe".

Last summer, Gerard Way's eclectic superhero comic, The Umbrella Academy, was picked up as a TV series by Netflix.

The visual spectacle of the Umbrella Academy as a unit - including a character with a gorilla body, no less - already provides a certain grotesque intrigue to the show.

The singer has always been a comic book fan, having studied at the School of Visual Arts in NY before joining MCR. Page previously played Kitty Pryde in two of the X-Men movies, but her part in this series will be much bigger.
