Celebrities Call For The Release Of Teen Sex-Trafficking Victim

Her story was first reported by media outlet Fox 12 in Nashville and since then details of the life of Cyntoia Brown have emerged.

Kim Kardashian West has hired her lawyer to help Cyntonia Brown, who is now serving a life sentence for killing a 43-year-old man when she was a 16-year-old involved in sex trafficking. The documentary generated renewed interest in her case and helped her find a lawyer to push for sentencing relief. Rihanna wrote to her millions of followers.

"Imagine at the age of 16 being sex-trafficked by a pimp named 'cut-throat, '" the story says. 'After days of being repeatedly drugged and raped by different men you were purchased by a 43 year old child predator who took you to his home to use you for sex. "You end up finding enough courage to fight back and shoot and kill him".

"Your (sic) arrested as (sic) result tried and convicted as an adult and sentenced to life in prison", it continues.

Had Brown been charged today, "she would have been seen as a victim". Cause....something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life!

Now 13 years into her sentence and facing life behind bars, her story has resurfaced after a social media post calling for her release went viral, shared by A-list celebrities and high profile names from Rihanna and Cara Delevingne to Kim Kardashian West, with #freecyntoiabrown now becoming a strong movement.

“Kim has championed the cause of Cyntoia Brown,” Shawn Holley told the Daily News

The reemergence of her story has inspired several petitions asking for a retrial in the case.

Brown shot Allen in the back of the head while he lay naked in his bedroom in August 2004, according to court documents.

"She wasn't just somebody who make one mistake", he said, according to the BBC.

Brown is a sex trafficking survivor who was sentence to decades in prison for killing the man who bought her as a sex slave. On appeal, Cyntoia's lawyers were able to show she suffered from Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder which affected her brain and showed up on medical brain scans. She said she resisted his advances until he appeared to reach under the bed. Brown said Allen reached under a bed for what she thought was a gun, so she pulled a.40 caliber handgun out of her purse and shot him. She then took two guns and some money from his wallet, and drove his truck to a Walmart parking lot. She pleaded self-defence. The jury found her guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder, and aggravated robbery.

Brown's life sentence caught criticism in Tennessee, and in 2012, a US Supreme Court ruling offered her advocates new hope. However, Brown's conviction does carry the possibility of parole - when Brown is 69 years old.

TV terms explained for Black Friday
For a 70 inch panel this was a stunning offer indeed, and especially for a current year 4K TV from one of the major name brands. That might sound like a hug sum of money, but it's actually a £2000 discount from the £4,499 launch price.
